Family Safaris

Family Safaris to me are the ultimate family holiday! There is non stop entertainment, fun and education all thrown together! Whether its camel trekking in Kenya, or horse riding in Botswana, or learning how to make bows and arrows, or how to make fires, or learning how the girls make their beadwork which they then sell, or simply learning about a culture which is very much alive – and what it takes to become a warrior in the 21st century – these are all things which make for the perfect family safari! Go tubing down rivers, quad biking in the desert, mountain biking and fishing! Then of course, no doubt, you will want to round it off at the coast somewhere and we have the most wonderful array of places to stay! From five star resorts with every watersport imaginable on offer, to chic, Robinson crusoe retreats, to sleeping on dhows or on a catamaran, to taking a private villa which comes with its own skipper and boat – there is something for everyone! On safari, you can have a private camp erected for your family with your own private guide and vehicle, which gives you complete flexibility for the day and its a wonderful bonding experience for a family. Alternately, sleep in a treehouse, or a luxury tented camp or lodge!

For famillies with children from 6 or under, we will obtain a private vehicle for you and a wonderful, child friendly guide who will open up and enthral them with an entirely different world. From looking at plaster of paris prints in the sand, determining which animals went where and taking a rucksack and learning about trees that are used for toothbrushes etc. Perhaps we will take them into an African village where they can interact with the other children, seeing how they make belts and jewellery with beadwork  etc. For the older children, make bows and arrows and learn how to use them, learn what it takes to become a warrior and learn how to make a fire with no matches. Camp out with your guides beneath the stars, go horse riding, camel riding and sleep out in a treehouse! Learn about the night sky and the medicinal properties of trees and plants. Perhaps go quad biking and fishing. Then finish up on the beach where there is anything from a swimming pool, or the ocean, to kite sufing, laser sailing, kayaking, water skiing, canoeing, snorkelling, scuba diving and fishing. Perhaps spend some time on a boat, visiting islands, or stay in a chic, Robinson Crusoe retreat or a private villa.

With over 25 years of arranging bespoke family safaris – and a team of specialists from Africa – nobody knows family safaris like we do!

Family Safari

One of the best ways of going on a family holiday is a family safari. This really does tick all the boxes, because one is spending time together as a family (good bonding for those teenagers especially!), and even for those with younger children, it is the most fantastic holiday as it offers non stop activity for those that wish. There are so many elements in addition to consider – from horse riding, to canoeing and boating, to walking, fishing, learning about the medicinal properties of trees and plants, learning about the night sky – and naturally – learning all about these magnificent animals at close quarters!

Whether your style is camping out at night or staying in the safe confines of a luxury lodge – a family safari really does offer the best type of family holiday ever! I should know – I take my family on safari every year! Then one can either round it off with a stay at Victoria Falls where one can either relax or partake in more activities than you know what to do with, from white water rafting, to canoeing, bunjee jumping, elephant back riding, horse riding, micro lighting, visiting schools, of course seeing the Victoria Falls themselves – or – for those who hanker after the sea – then there is the coast where this can either be a completely relaxing or fun filled time again – staying at anything from a chic Robinson Crusoe retreat, to a luxury resort or a private villa, which comes with its own private boat and skipper.

Best Family Safari Holidays

The best family safari holidays are those that satisfy all the travellers involved! After all, most parents will have come to realise that if their children are not having a good time, nor will they!  The best thing about a family safari in Africa is the amount of diversity on offer and the fact that you never stop! Whether it is game viewing in a vehicle, walking out with your ranger who will be describing the medicinal properties of trees and plants – or perhaps your Samburu guide who will be explaining what it takes to become a warrior in the 21st century! Learn to make fires without match sticks, how to pole a canoe, how to fish, how to drive a landrover, how to identify the stars and the planets in the night sky – even how to make wonderful bread in the bush! And this – is just the tip of the iceberg!

Swinging on rope swings across rivers, tubing down rivers, horse riding, camel trekking – you name it – its all part of the safari, if you would like it to be! End up somewhere relaxing on the coast or on a lake – where you can either simply read a book around a swimming pool whilst your young ones go off on banana boats, snorkelling, water skiing etc.

Malaria Free Family Safaris

For the greatest certainty and guarantee of malaria free family safaris, one must look to South Africa to provide the answer! Here, your safari starts literally an hour outside of Johannesburg! Then you can travel a couple of hours further to reach reserves such as Madikwe and Welgevonden. There are beautiful private houses and villas that one can take which come with their own private vehicle and guide. Then there are lodges which cater specifically for children, with face painting on offer, wonderful barbeques beneath the stars in a reed enclosure, at night – complete with African dancing, which children love – and during the day, your guide and tracker reveal the wonders of the bush to you and your family. In the Cape, we can arrange this for you too – there is one reserve in particular which stands head and shoulders above any other – the children are given rucksacks, they are told about the medicinal properties of trees and plants and they make plaster of paris moulds of the  footprints of the animals in the sand. You can then combine this with the beach, perhaps some horse riding or some camping – maybe even some canoeing or white water rafting – the options are endless! However, for a truly special malaria free family safari – we have a team of specialists from South Africa, who specialise in tailor making family safaris – giving your family both fun and adventure of a lifetime!
