Kairouan

Kairouan is considered the fourth holiest city in Islam. The Great Mosque is at the heart of this and the city itself, a striking presence dating back to the seventh century. Kairouan’s architecture is exemplified by this, and the delightfully painted Barber’s Mosque, and the fortifications around the ancient town.
