El Jem
The Amphitheatre of El Jem is a spectacular structure dating back to the third century AD – a stadium of similar scale as that of the Colosseum in Rome, with a capacity of 35,000, and a extensive areas to explore in, around, and even under the construction. It was part of the Roman city of Thysdrus, a city with fewer inhabitants than the Amphitheatre itself. It is still in use today, occasionally hosting concerts.
