Bulla Regia
The underground villas of Bulla Regia are a fascinating curiosity. As a Roman design there is nothing like it across the rest of the Empire, though in the south of Tunisia the Berbers had taken to building troglodyte dwellings. What is left today, however, are several buildings with ornate mosaics left in situ, which point to the affluence of the region, which was abruptly brought to an end by an earthquake.
