Bosra
Bosra was one of the Decapolis cities constructed by the Romans in the Levant, and what is left here towards the border of Syria and Jordan is an intriguing site. Most iconic is the colouration – everything was built out of the local black basalt – and it stands apart from other sites as a result. The remains of the city are relatively sparse, but the Amphitheatre is extraordinarily well preserved, encased as it is by a high wall, and still offering the same impressive views and acoustics that it would have done centuries ago.
