Muscat
Essential to any visit to Oman, Muscat is a fascinating blend of the old and the new. There are more than a million people in the capital, living in a city dominated by a long expanse of corniche on one side and the towering splendour of the Hajar mountains on the other. Modern day Muscat is an amalgamation of old Muscat, Matruh, and Ruwi, which have all swelled and interlinked, but the Sultanate has taken care to preserve its history, so the forts of their forbears stand by the imposing mosque of Sultan Qaboos.
