Cyrene and Apollonia
While Roman ruins abound in the Middle East, Greek ones remain something of a rarity, so there is much to enjoy in the east of Libya. Cyrene and Apollonia are two of the best examples. The former basks in lush surroundings at the foot of Jebel Akhdar’s uplands, with several Temples including that of Apollo constructed in the seventh century, while the latter is the port city, with several churches and high pillars rising against the backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea
