Saqqara

Saqqara is one of our favourite pyramid sites in Egypt, just 30km south of Cairo. Home to an Old Kingdom necropolis, it is best known for Djoser’s step pyramid, a remarkable construction which pre-dates the pyramids. For interested Egyptologists it adds another level of understanding to the eventual construction of the Great Pyramids, and all with a fraction of the tourists who naturally flock to the site at Giza.
