These days, parents actually want to spend their holidays with their children! At The Explorations Company we have children ourselves, and we take them on safari with us each year; it is so enjoyable to witness our children’s wonderment and delight at their first encounter with wildlife!
Through careful, meticulous, dedicated research with our own families, we have assembled the perfect array of properties where the guiding is child-friendly and interactive, informative and fun in both game-rich and non-malarial areas. We look for a perfect balance between wildlife and culture, so their safari is educational, too!
Accommodation ranges from rustic camp-outs for a night, or a luxury mobile tented private safari camp set up for your family, to luxury tented camps, treehouses, or private houses and luxury villas.
Activities on safari range from traditional game-viewing by vehicle, to exploring on foot, learning about spoor-marks or tracks in the sand, perhaps taking a plaster of Paris mould for them to take home; they learn about the trees and plants and their medicinal properties, as well as about the night sky, how to canoe, how to fish, how to make a bow and arrow (and how to use it), and how to make a fire with no matches. We even have mini game-ranger courses! Go horse-riding, camel-trekking with Samburu warrior (learning what it means to be a warrior in the 21st century), canoeing (minimum age requirement), riding elephants, cycling, and visiting schools.
How about one of our family safari and beach holidays? The ultimate African family safari combines well with the ‘ocean’: perhaps a chic, Robinson Crusoe-style lodge or a private villa complete with its own staff, skipper and boat which allows you complete freedom each day. Often a villa is the perfect solution, allowing total flexibility at meal times. Many of our clients book a villa for a week, sometimes with another family who are friends of theirs, which allows them complete privacy and luxury. Perhaps have a week on safari and a week on the coast – the advantage being minimal travel and maximum relaxation!
You can also spend a week sailing on a catamaran if you prefer to be on the go! Children can spend hours searching for shells or being as active as they want – with water-skiing, sailing, kite surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing and swimming with dolphins all on offer.
Otherwise, please see what the different countries can offer you and your family below – and then call Nicola Shepherd, our family specialist, who would be delighted to talk you through the most suitable options for you or have a read of our blog on where to enjoy the best family holidays!
A safari is the finest, action-packed, fun-filled family holiday one can ever have!
