African Explorations specialises in

sensational tailormade family

holidays and safaris to Africa!

With over 22 years of experience and a team who come from Africa, taking our own famillies on safari each year, we are in the perfect position to advise you on where to go!

For us, the greatest enjoyment is when our clients return and tell us that it truly was the best holiday they have ever had in their lives! A family holiday in Africa is a really special and bonding experience as famillies spend quality time together.

Depending upon whether your family is ‘outdoorsy’ or a city dweller who likes their comforts and solid walls and what your interests are, we can tailor the most wonderful family holidays to the following countries:

Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi,Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Madagascar.

Some ideas we can offer:

Camping – from basic, lightweight fly camps for a night or two of camping, to luxury tented camps, some complete with silver candelabra and persian rugs,  for several nights. These can be part of  a safari in a wildlife rich region such as the Masai Mara in Kenya, the Serengeti in Tanzania or the Chobe National Park in Botswana or as part of a camel assisted walking safari which is great fun in Laikipia in Kenya.

Taking exclusive use of a tented camp in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, where the guide shows your children how to read the spoormarks or tracks left by wild animals, the medicinal purposes of plants and trees, how to fish, how to read the night sky in the southern hemisphere and then you can go quad biking in the Kalahari Desert, spending time with meerkats and meeting and learning about the bushmen or the San people.

Canoeing down the lower Zambezi in Zambia and going on a walking safari in the south Luangwa National Park. End off on Lake Malawi, where one can sail, snorkel, scuba dive or charter a catamaran and visit the islands.

Staying at a camp in Kenya where one can spend a day with lion researchers, or learning about the Samburu and the Masai tribes, learning which trees one can use to make a bow and arrow and how to use them; how to make a fire without matches; visit tribal homes of the Masai and Samburu people and their culture. End off on the coast at a villa which comes complete with its own skipper and boat so you can snorkel, scuba dive and water ski or on a lake.

Stay at a lovely ranch which has wildlife,  where one can horse ride, have sleep outs, learn archery, go on night game drives, learning about the nocturnal animals, as well as game drives and walks during the day; do some clay pigeon shooting. In Tanzania, stay at a tented camp where the local tribe still hunts and accompany them on foot on their hunting forays.

For those requiring the  top level of luxury, stay in a private villa in East Africa, or in Zambia  or in the Kruger Park in South Africa, or for those seeking a non-malarial safari if the children are very young, in the Eastern Cape, ending up on the coast at a beautiful lodge in Plettenberg Bay where one can horse ride, visit the beach closeby, ride elephants, visit a national park where one can zip wire amongst the boughs of trees. Camp out with a private guide  in the Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa, learn about the Zulu wars, see wildlife, canoe, fish, horse ride. We also have beautiful villas in the Cape, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Madagascar and Botswana.

In Madagascar, visit a park with lemurs and then end up taking a catamaran around the islands – which is sensational!

Go on a horse riding safari, a canoe safari, a traditional vehicle-based game viewing safari, a camel safari, a walking safari, or a combination of all these factors! End up on the coast in South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, the Seychelles or Mauritius.

The options are endless – but what you can be assured of, is the right advice and the holiday of a lifetime!
