Uganda Gorilla Safari

On many people’s wishlist, lies – unsurprisingly – a safari to see gorillas! Having had the privilege to see gorillas in the wild on many occasions, I can honestly say its the most mesmerising, humbling experience imaginable!

One of the top countries to see a gorilla is Uganda (the others being Rwanda and the Congo). A Uganda Gorilla Safari offers you the opportunity to get within feet of these magnificent creatures, watching their behaviour and interaction with the rest of the primate group. In fact, they are incredibly gentle and one listens to them communicating with their group whilst the guide will communicate back to them reassuring sounds in order to keep them relaxed. To spend three days in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is extraordinary in itself – we recommend two days to see the gorillas as one never takes it in properly the first time around! Then, Bwindi is just so beautiful, so to walk and perhaps visit the Pygmy tribe is highly recommended too. People interested in gorillas are often interested in chimpanzees too. There is a fabulous chimpanzee sanctuary called Ngamba where one can stay and even be a keeper for the day. This is such a worthwhile charity, set up by Jane Goodall. One can also see free ranging habituated chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge and Kibale. Add in Kidepo National Park for the best wildlife in Uganda and possibly Murchison Falls and one has the perfect Uganda Safari!

There are many reasons to visit Uganda – not least because the country is breathtakingly beautiful with heart stopping scenery, wonderful, friendly people and incredible wildlife – but the reason most people associate with a  safari to this magnificent country is to see the gorillas.

A Uganda Gorilla Safari
situated in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest allows you, in small groups of up to six people, to get really close to these extraordinary primates and spend up to an hour with them! This is one of those ‘must do in a lifetime’ experiences and we recommend doing at least two treks in a visit to Bwindi – simply because once is simply not enough! Then there is a wonderful array of lovely lodges to stay at – and we choose only the best guides for you too!
