Safari in South Africa

I may be biased coming from South Africa, but so many people truly have the wrong impression of the country in terms of safari. Yes of course, they do cater to those seeking five star luxury lodges incredibly well, probably better than anywhere else in Africa – but there is a flipside too, for those yearning for greater adventure – such as microlighting, paragliding, horse riding, surfing, sailing, kite surfing, flying, fly fishing – to name but a few!

And if you want to go white water rafting for several days or canoeing down some of South Africa’s greatest rivers, that’s great too . The beaches are brilliant at certain times of year (if the water is a little chilly!), there are battlefields to visit and wonderful lodges to stay at.  Then we get onto the gourmet scene which is pretty superb, especially in the winelands in the Cape – and of course, wine tasting tours with experts or botany tours at the time when the wild flowers are out.

There are fantastic walking safaris and wildlife is prevalent pretty much everywhere. There are even marine 5 safaris where you can see the most spectacular marine life, including the southern right whale which migrates to the Cape at certain times of year. For famillies it is perfect, because of the malaria free areas and handful of lodges which specialise in taking children on safari, no matter what age!
