Holidays to Oman – It’s hard to talk about holidays to Oman because there is so much scope and potential to explore!
If your interest is nature, culture, adventuring, learning or merely relaxing, there’s something for you in Oman.
If you’re travelling alone, as a couple, or with a family, there are experiences to fit the bill.
And whether your idea of fun is the beach, the desert, the mountains or the city, again, Oman obliges.
For all that, there are certain things that I would suggest are very hard to leave off an itinerary.
Muscat is one of those – it’s the place you’ll fly in to, for one thing, but it’s where some of the most wonderful beach hotels are located for another, and as a capital city it’s got plenty to explore, with no sight perhaps more iconic than the Sultan Qaboos Mosque.
But as you head into the desert you start to see a side of Oman which is altogether more rugged and remote.
You’re not quite so far away from civilisation as you think, but in the heart of the Wahiba Sands under a clear, starry sky, you feel just about as far away from Britain as it is possible to feel.
And if you want to take a step back in time, then watching the traders go about their business at the cattle market in Nizwa is a must.
This chaotic marketplace is how business has been done in the Omani interior for centuries – what is more, it is not a show put on for tourists – this truly is part of life for many in rural parts of the country.
It is a sight to behold – but it is one of many in a place with all kinds of delights, which is why no two itineraries we arrange are ever the same!
