Gorilla Trekking in Africa is on most people’s wish list, I think you will find! Certainly – anyone who is remotely interested in wildlife! Having had the privilege of not only being brought up in Africa but being able to witness the mountain gorillas in both Uganda and Rwanda, has been an extraordinary experience. Now it is also possible to see the western lowland gorilla in the Congo! Seeing them in all these different locations allows one to have completely different experiences. For example, the mountain gorilla in Uganda can be seen in Bwindi which is a primary forest, very pretty, but also quite dark and densely vegetated. Whereas, in Rwanda, in the Virungas, that is a bamboo forest and often one can see the gorillas in open clearing. But what all these treks or walks have in commmon is one thread – that there are only a handful of groups of generally about six people allowed to go up each day in search of the gorilla and spend around an hour observing the family. This has to be the most privileged experience possible. The sheer size of them, yet their incredible gentleness. To listen to their family communicating with one another, is a rare and beautiful process. Providing one can get the permits in time, we can offer you the most extraordinary, wonderful gorilla tracking safaris and these days, the accommodation is quite superb with an excellent choice to choose from! Contact your gorilla specialists from Africa to tailor a wonderful gorilla safari for you!
There are several ‘must do’s’ in terms of travel in one’s life! Most would include Antarctica, probably the Galapagos Islands, normally safari in Africa and then – gorilla trekking!
I think there is always a fascination from one primate to another – partly to see the evolution process and differences between man and ape (and wonderment at how one group split off around 10 million years ago and the other didn’t) and partly, to feel the sheer privilege of spending an hour or so with these extraordinary, intelligent, gentle giants. Gorillas are our second closest living relatives – the dna differential is a startling 1.75%.

I am extremely fortunate to have seen gorillas on several occasions and in different locations – although I clearly can remember sitting in a clearing in Uganda, literally feet away from the mountain gorilla and watching them communicate and interact with one another – and being moved to tears. The population is under threat – with only around 700 left in the wild, between Uganda and Rwanda. To go gorilla trekking is one of the most rewarding holidays that one can possibly ever go on – knowing that your $750.00 permit has gone to an incredibly good cause – and knowing that you have seen one of the world’s endangered species – that could so easily become extinct. We would suggest at least two gorilla permits over a three day period. The best gorilla trekking is in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda and in the Virungas in Rwanda.

An African safari needs to be tailormade in order to ensure that you get the most out of it. Just rationalise – how could one safari be right for thousands of people? It simply can’t – and one just ends up compromising hugely. And why should one? When paying this much money for a holiday (or anything else in life, for that matter), it has to be as perfect as possible – and the only way this is possible is to replicate an environment that you not only feel comfortable in, but indeed surpasses all your expectations and leaves you breathless!

And that’s where we come in! We listen to you, ask lots of questions, analyse and disseminate that information and then send you a suggestion which we think will be absolutely right for you! Whether its taking in photography lessons with a film maker and guide in the Masai Mara, going up in a hot air balloon across the sand dunes in the Namib Desert of Namibia or flying over the harsh and beautiful Skeleton Coast. Perhaps it is seeing the wildebeest migration in the mighty Serengeti – or spending times with chimps. It could be spending time with a researcher, looking for wild dog in Botswana, or taking a houseboat on the Chobe River. Perhaps it is looking at gorillas or sitting on the back of an elephant on an elephant back safari in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. What about riding a horse across the Kalahari Desert in Botswana or sipping wine at some of the best wine estates in the Cape? It might even be canoeing along the Mighty Zambezi in Zimbabwe or viewing the Victoria Falls. It could even be undertaking a walking safari.
