Botswana Safaris

Botswana Safaris come in many forms! In terms of diversity of safari, this country probably offers the ultimate – from some of the best horse riding safaris – both in the Okavango Delta and in the Kalahari Desert, to being able to ride on the back of an elephant and become part of the herd. There is even the opportunity to sleep above the elephants for the night (in luxury!), but being close and observing these extraordinary and peaceful creatures. Then one can go out by boat on safari – either a mokoro (a wooden dug out canoe), skimming across the floodplains – or by motor boat into the deeper waters. Then there are walking safaris on the islands and the conventional vehicle based safaris whereby one game views by open 4 x 4 landrover or landcruiser in this gane rich country!

Botswana has something else in its favour  too- whilst there are lodges in the national parks and game reserves, a huge amount of the country has been placed in private wildlife concessions – which means, that essentially, one has huge tracts of private land in which to see fantastic concentrations of game – with nobody else there. This is indeed a privilege – and a real bonus for any wildlife enthusiast. One also has great contrasts of scenery and vegetation here – from the Kalahari Desert to the lush oasis of the Okavango Delta, plus the excellent Moremi game reserve and Chobe National Park.

Lastly, there is a wide variety of accommodation available – from a private, mobile tented camp whereby one has complete privacy and flexbility with ones own private guide and vehicle, to private villas and then luxury lodges and luxury camps which are permanent. Whatever one chooses, Botswana Safaris are some of the best one  can ever encounter!

Botswana Safaris

Safaris to Botswana operate completely differently to any other safari in Africa. This is mainly due to the Park’s Board’s approach of low density of tourism versus high cost of park fees and the accommodation which is kept small and therefore requires high cost in terms of making it viable. What does that mean to the tourist? It means huge concessions of land for just one camp of perhaps eight tents, catering for sixteen people. It allows you to traverse this pristine wilderness without seeing another soul and having it to yourself – and quite obviously – to this there is a cost. But – a very worthwhile cost! To be able to explore vast, open tracts of land, teeming with magnificent wildlife is an absolute privilege. Add to this the contrast of the Kalahari Desert to the Okavango Delta and you have the most remarkable, staggeringly beautiful safari!

And – then add the variety of means of viewing this wildlife! From traditional game viewing in open 4 x 4 landrovers or landcruisers, to going out and seeing it on foot (the very best form), to mingling amongst wildlife on horseback or elephant back, to spending time gliding in a mokoro – a wooden, dug out canoe, at a pace of life unknown to us, with the heady scent of waterlillies in the air.

The parks are so different and varied in terrain that each is known for certain species. Where else does one find the old magnificent herds of elephant up to 70 000 strong in one area at certain times of the year? Only Chobe – in Botswana. With over 22 years experience of tailoring safaris and specialists who actually come from the Okavango Delta, who better to arrange your safari for you?   Botswana Safaris are simply  like no other!
