African Trekking Safari

An African Trekking Safari would otherwise be known as a walking safari. These in my opinion are some of the finest ways of being on safari! On foot – one’s senses are heightened and one learns so much more – such as the medicinal properties of trees and plants, how to read the prints (or spoormarks) in the sand, which animals they are, which direction they are heading (pretty important!), as well as learning to walk downwind whilst keeping pace with an elephant herd!

One also learns all about the insects and butterflies and the ecological role of the dung beetle – so many things and all so fascinating and vital to the continuation of this extraordinary continent!

Private Safari Kenya

There is nothing quite like a Private Safari in Kenya! There are two ways of achieving a completely private safari. The first is have a private tented camp set up just for your party – whether it is simply two of you or a family or group of friends. What are the advantages of a private safari in Kenya? This is easy to answer. The first is flexibility. You can determine exactly how your days are going to run, how long you spend on game drives, how long you spend on walks, when you depart on a game drive or walk – and how long you want to stay with a sighting. Secondly – if you have an interest such as photography, birdlife, or anything else – you can indulge in it without feeling guilty about the other people  in the vehicle! Thirdly – a private safari means a private guide – and this is probably the most important aspect of all. A private guide means you get the very best guide possible – who really opens up the safari to you and engages with you. You also have continuity – not having the same information told to you several times. Then the most obvious advantage is coming back to the camp that is just there for you – so you can socialise with your own guide, camp crew and family or friends – you don’t have to make conversation with everyone else! All of these amount to a much better, more successful safari all round!

You can either have a camp set up for you in the Masai Mara or any of the national parks or in private concessions just outside the parks – and these tents are all pretty luxurious – with en suite bathrooms, hot running water and flush toilets. The food is superb, the scenery is amazing and it is just perfect!

Otherwise, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can take over a villa and stay in a private homestead with the most astonishing views, perhaps horse riding, walking, swimming and playing a bit of tennis, going on nature drives, and then fly to the parks – the Mara, Amboseli, Samburu, Meru and spend the time game viewing during the day by vehicle and on foot and having your own private villa to return to in the afternoons and evenings.

We also arrange private horse riding safaris and private walking safaris, where you are taken by a Samburu guide and sleep in beautiful tented camps, with Moroccan cushions and rugs and hurricane lamps, learning all about the culture.

We can also arrange helicopter trips to Lake Turkana, Lake Rutundu and Lake Alice – or Lake Bogoria with its thermal springs and flamingoes.  For the ultimate, we can split your party, give you helicopters and aircraft for you to fly around the country, place the luxury mobile tented camps in any of the parks and some people can stay in the lodge whilst others go on safari.

Whatever you wish for in a private safari, we certainly can arrange it!

Holidays in Oman

Holidays in Oman can be anything that you want them to be! Active or restful, exploring history or modernity – Oman has plenty to offer.

Whatever draws you to Oman, the one thing you get is a taste of Arabia. Strange as it is to say it, in my experience you don’t always find that in North Africa and the Middle East – life can be quite westernised, and the pictures you have in your head may not tally with what you see when you arrive.

But in Oman, there’s still that flavour. The landscape is one of deserts, mountains and sweeping beaches – the climate offering year-round sunshine. The people are more traditional than you find in many other countries in the region, with traditional dress often still worn.

Holidays in Oman with AfricanExplorations.com

Despite this, it is a modern, vibrant place too – and accommodation, especially around the capital Muscat, reflects this. There’s no shortage of luxurious options – on the beach, within range of the city’s markets, mosques and the forts that once guarded the harbour towns.

And if you want to get away from it all, that’s equally possible. The Wahiba Sands provide opportunities to camp in the dunes, the coastal town of Sur is a laid-back treat. A favourite hideaway of ours in Oman is the Six Senses hotel in Zighy Bay, where the diving is spectacular and the activities are wonderful.

But the options are plentiful and we always start from scratch with a guided sightseeing programme to the country, so you can make your holidays in Oman your very own.

Bespoke Africa Safaris

Africa as a continent lends itself entirely to bespoke holidays. I find it an anathema that people should want to purchase a package that was made for somebody else. No two people are the same so how can two safaris or holidays be the same? In twenty two years, we have never assembled exactly the same safari for any two clients simply because, we are all so individual – with individual tastes, hobbies, interests and requirements!

Bespoke Africa with AfricanExplorations.com

This is where we come in – arranging beautiful bespoke safaris and holidays to Africa. Whether pursuing chimpanzees in the Mahale Mountains, staying in a gorgeous Bohemian styled tented camp on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, or having a fly camp erected purely for your party in southern Tanzania, complete with private vehicle, guide and crew or walking through northern Luangwa in Zambia or canoeing down the mighty Zambezi river with one of Zimbabwe’s finest guides – this is what dreams are made of!

Bespoke Africa with AfricanExplorations.com

Have a luxury private camp set up for you in Botswana or get close to the bushmen or San people, obtaining a privileged experience of seeing them dance in a trance, or take an Arab dhow through the Quirimbas region of Mozambique. Watch the wildebeest migration in Tanzania from a private mobile safari or luxury camp, or even from the Masai Mara. Come close to gorillas and chimpanzees in Rwanda and Uganda. Hot air balloon over the world’s highest sand dunes in Namibia or stalk to the Black rhino on foot. Go out with lion or elephant researchers in Kenya, or on an elephant back safari in Botswana. Sample the finest wines in the in the Cape or have some of the most stylish accommodation on a family holiday. Learn how to make pottery in Malawi or take a catamaran along the shores of the Lake. Walking Safari Tanzania

There is nothing quite like a walking safari in Africa and one country which really delivers this well is Tanzania.

What I love so much about a walking safari in Tanzania is the diversity and contrast that it allows.

Walking safari in Tanzania with AfricanExplorations.com

In Northern Tanzania, one can go walking in the Serengeti plains and the Ngorongoro Crater region, with a fly camp which is fully serviced, erected for you on an individual basis. There is no better way of discovering the bush, seeing wildlife, but also learning about the homeopathic properties of plants and trees as well as learning to identify spoormarks in the soil and get to know the birdlife and insect life (or entymology). You have a superb Tanzanian guide to share his knowledge with you!

Walking Safaris with AfricanExplorations.com

Then what about going to Lake Natron and spending time with one of the last hunter-gatherers, the Hadzabe tribe? This is a highlight for so many clients!

Finally, fly camp in the southern part of Tanzania – my favourite being Katavi, followed by the Selous and finally Ruaha. These are three very different and beautiful regions with not another soul. If you want to get away from it all, in areas which are so incredibly beautiful but also unbelievably diverse, allowing a great mix of wildlife – then this must be for you! Sleep beneath the stars, dine on the most wonderful food, beautifully prepared for you by your cooks and presented to you by your complement of staff, before finally falling asleep with the twinkling of the stars being your last memory! There is something wonderful knowing that you are the only people in the reserve, whilst the sun sets and the birds take up their night positions on the boughs of the trees.

Awake to a glorious sunrise, and to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and the dewy scent of the sage plants before having a hot shower, breakfast and beginning your next day’s walk. What will you discover today? No two days are ever the same in Africa but one thing is certain – a walking safari is one of the best types of safari one can ever undertake! Call us to begin your safari of a lifetime here!

Singita

Singita is a name synonymous with luxury – whether one stays at their luxurious lodges in South Africa or their luxury lodges in the Serengeti in Tanzania – quality is the hallmark!

Singita with AfricanExplorations.com

New to Singita Serengeti is the luxury mobile safari – starting off at their beautiful camp Faru Faru and then going on a luxury private mobile safari, just for you or a group of friends. There is no better way of being on safari! The guiding of course, is quite superb and all creature comforts have been thought of!

Then for those who enjoy horse riding, we can include for you to either ride whilst at Singita in the Serengeti or for those who are more experienced, to go on a proper horse riding safari for three days and up to a week!

We are specialists from Tanzania and South Africa, so call us for further details!

Luxury Safari in South Africa

South Africa really does lend itself to luxury safaris! Most of the lodges are incredibly luxurious with design inspired flair in evidence!

Top of the range must go to Singita and Royal Malewane – they are both in the premium league. Singita has several lodges, both in the Sabi Sands region and also in the beautiful Limpopo area. These two areas combine incredibly well and we will even give you free flights at certain times of year between the two! At Lebombo, you can not only go out game viewing in this dramatically scenic area with its impressive rocks, but also mountain cycling and walking. Then one can fly south to the Sabi Sands where the game viewing is more concentrated. Here you have a choice of three lodges – one which is an African homestead, which is taken for exclusive use and perfect for famillies or a group of friends. It has been kept in the traditional style with a large wrap around verandah and is just beautiful. Then there are Boulders and Ebony Lodges, their trademarks.  Boulders is cutting edge, minimalist designer in whites whilst Ebony is more traditional in earthy, warm African colours. Each suite has its own private plunge pool.

Then we have Royal Malewane which is situated in the game rich Thornybush Game Reserve. They have one of the state of the art spas here and it is no secret that Elton John returns here most years to take his safaris! Most of our clients always return too – as there is almost nothing quite like it. It is more traditional than Singita, and also much smaller – so perfect for those who are seeking a more intimate atmosphere. Amazing wildlife, some of the best rangers in South Africa and one is looked after beautifully. Game drives and walks are conducted here.

Royal Malewane with AfricanExplorations.com

We are from South Africa and know all the lodges well, having stayed there ourselves! A luxury safari in South Africa is incredibly easy to arrange, once you come to the experts!

Luxury Safari in Namibia

It is very possible these days to obtain a luxury safari in Namibia. There are some beautiful lodges in the Namib Desert – simply stunning! Some have windows in the ceiling so you can watch the famous Namibian Desert night sky – and possibly even have a professor of astronomy talking to you! Otherwise, have a room which is open sided, allowing 180 degree views right across the desert and watch as the sun changes hue. Then go hot air ballooning across the dunes which is simply magical!

Fly up to Etosha where there are some gorgeous villas and you can be in the best game viewing regions in Namibia.

Then move north to the border of Angola and the Caprivi Strip where another of my favourite lodges exists – and one has the desert behind and the river in front of you! There is also quad biking here and one learns about the Ova Himba people.

There is also a lovely lodge located in the mountains between large, orange boulders and here one explores the Damaraland region.

But in between, there are lots of lovely, small lodges and camps – some where you can sleep on the deck beneath the stars, others are owner managed.
