african walking safari
There is nothing quite like an African walking safari to really get one going! Its the best way of seeing Africa without a doubt. There is no noise or vehicle pollution – just you and the bush, together with your guide (who will be one of Africa’s best!), and possibly a handful of like-minded individuals.
An African walking safari opens up the entire spectrum of the environment surrounding you. Your senses are naturally heightened as you listen for every sound you hear and your guide will establish what it is and where it comes from. Then you will learn about the medicinal properties of plants and trees and you will learn to identify the tracks in the sand of wildlife that has been before you.
The most rewarding aspect is standing down wind perhaps from a herd of elephant or zebra as you observe their behaviour. The smell of plants such as sage and potato bush linger in the air and one has time to spend concentrating on looking through binoculars and learning about the bush at a ‘slower pace’.
It is also super to be able to sleep at night beneath canvas and the very best is the hot bucket showers one has beneath the stars at night. Added with some exercise, I cannot think of a better way of going on safari!
